Stanley Christian Pedersen, age 87, from Fort Collins passed away peacefully on October 25 at his home with his wife holding his hand and his family all around.

Stan was born on October 18, 1922, in Omaha, Nebraska, and spent his early years at their homestead in South Dakota. The family relocated to a farm in Hamlin, Iowa, where he graduated from high school. He joined the Navy during World War II and served in the South Pacific. He served on three ships, and commissioned and raised the flag on the U.S.S. Oxford.

Stan met his wife, Chloris Cherry, in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1942, and they married on June 17, 1944, in the Naval Chapel in Bremerton, Washington. Stan and Chloris left Des Moines in 1952 and moved to Fort Collins. Stan owned and worked with Pedersen Brothers Construction with his brothers, Harold, Warren, and Bill until 1983, when he and Chloris moved into their retirement home in Estes Park built by their sons, Greg and Jim. They returned to live in Fort Collins in 2005 to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Stan is survived by his wife, Chloris; five children and their spouses, Larry and Shirley Pedersen, Donna and Dave Koehler, Greg and Kathy Pedersen, Jim and Marlene Pedersen, and Kris and Bob Devore; 12 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren and two buns in the oven. Surviving brothers and sister are Warren and Gordon Pedersen and JoAnne Slizeski of Estes Park. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dagmar and John Pedersen, his brother, Harold, his sister, Evelyn Waldo, and an infant brother, Dale.

Stan loved fishing, hunting, and his home in Estes Park. His favorite past time was camping with his family and sitting around the campfire telling stories. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, his zest for life, and his love of family.

Stan was a member of St. John's Lutheran in Fort Collins and Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Estes Park.

A memorial service will be held Monday, November 2, at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 950 South St. Vrain Avenue, Estes Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church in Wellington or Pathways Hospice c/o Allnutt, 650 West Drake Road, Fort Collins.
